Details of my Counselling & Therapy Options & Techniques

Individual Counselling & Therapy

I see counselling as the bringing together of my skills and experience with a clients desire for life improvement and change. Through building understanding and strength we can address a host of general and specific aspects of a client’s mental wellbeing.

Over the course of a series of individual, couples, family or group sessions (generally 60 minutes) we explore issues, develop resilience tools and look positively towards life changes.

Mindfulness Sessions

Mindfulness is the process of being present in the moment, being fully engaged and immersed in what you are doing and experiencing. Using this state to see things without judgement and pay attention can help with stress, relaxation and happiness.

I like to deliver specialised sessions to promote and rejuvenating mindfulness. Making use of specific spaces, activities and techniques to foster a calm but focused mind through both individual and small group sessions.

Group Therapy

Bringing together a small group of people who will benefit from the social aspects of working through issues and making life changes collectively. Planned and closely facilitated sessions both online and in-person allow people to face their fears and through the support of the larger group move forward with like-minded companionship.

Psycho-Education

Learning how to master the art of communication, problem solving, emotional outbursts including anger and fear as well as gaining a good night sleep will greatly contribute to a healthier and happier you or your loved one. These evidenced based techniques have been successful in helping the clients that I have worked with.

Call me and we can discuss further what it is you are looking for and how we can work together to achieve your desired outcome.

Life Coaching

With the counsellor taking on the role of enthusiastic supporter for life changes and improvement, life coaching is about getting on track towards the life you want to lead and everything that entails.

EAP Counselling

I love being able to support people through their employer’s EAP (Employee Assistance Program).

Techniques

I bring a range of specific techniques into sessions to cater to an individual or group’s specific needs. Here are a few examples:

The Circle of Security Parenting Program is an evidenced based therapy modelled on secure attachment for children 0-5 years. The technique helps parents understand their child’s emotional world by learning to read emotional needs while supporting their child’s ability to successfully manage emotions and build self esteem.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy helps you accept the difficulties that come with life. ACT is a form of mindfulness based therapy where greater wellbeing can be attained by overcoming negative thoughts and feelings. ACT also addresses your commitment to making changes, and what to do about it when you can’t stick to your goals.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy helps you identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts while learning practical self-help strategies. These strategies are designed to bring about immediate positive changes in your quality of life. CBT aims to show you how your thinking affects your mood. It is based on the understanding that thinking negatively is a habit that, like any other habit, can be broken.

Relaxation Therapy and Psychoneuroimmunology leverages the link between the mind, body, relaxation, behaviour and thoughts on the immune function and health.

Workers Compensation

I am a registered counsellor that can accept Workers Compensation clients through both I-Care and Victims Services.
